Thailand Music Festival Travel Guide for International Visitors
2026–2027 festival season · Updated 3 October 2026

A good festival trip gives you a clear arrival, a comfortable sleeping plan and a booked route home. For a music-and-arts holiday, our recommended starting point is Gaia Beats near Chiang Mai, 22–24 January 2027. Its included bring-your-own camping and Mae On setting make the festival a natural centrepiece for a northern Thailand visit.
Jump to a festival or section
Choose the gateway for your festival
| Festival destination | Useful gateway | Main onward journey |
|---|---|---|
| Gaia Beats, Mae On | Chiang Mai Airport (CNX) | Pre-booked road transfer or festival shuttle |
| EDC, Phuket | Phuket Airport (HKT) | Hotel and Rhythm Park transport |
| Wonderfruit, Chonburi | Bangkok airports | Road connection to accommodation and The Fields |
| UnKonscious, Pattaya | Bangkok airports | Road connection to Pattaya |
| Sola Luna, Khanom | Surat Thani or Nakhon Si Thammarat | Road transfer to the coastal venue |
| Spiritgust, Nakhon Si Thammarat | Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport (NST) | Road connection to Tha Sala |
| Fly To The Moon, Koh Mak | Bangkok or Trat-area travel | Road and ferry connections |
Choose flights around the entire journey. A cheap arrival can become awkward if it leaves you too late for the last island connection or your first festival day.
Gaia Beats: Best Music and Arts Festival
Fly into Chiang Mai a day or two before the event. The organiser’s first-timer’s guide advises allowing around an hour from the airport to the venue. A city night gives you time to recover, arrange cash and collect anything missing from your camping kit.
The Old City works well for walking, temples and a traditional city feel; Nimman offers cafes and a different neighbourhood atmosphere. If staying closer to the festival, choose a Mae On property with a workable transfer to Sense Hot Spring rather than a listing described loosely as “near Chiang Mai”.
For us, a conscious and transformational experience means making room for creative participation, community and time in nature alongside the music. Gaia Beats brings those elements into one weekend through its workshops, locally rooted participation and camping setting.
Camping or nearby accommodation
Gaia includes camping with your own gear, with quieter Family Camping and General Camping zones. Pack the tent, sleeping mat and warm bedding you need for a comfortable January night. Free camping means the pitch is included; it does not mean a tent or bedding is supplied.
For a room, ask about the nightly journey to the venue. The organiser links nearby options and describes a Skugga attendee arrangement with scheduled transfers. Use the linked property’s actual booking terms when comparing that option with other homestays or city rooms.
Book the return journey before you arrive
Gaia’s FAQ describes pre-booked shuttle, taxi and local shared-taxi options. Its first-timer’s guide recommends a booked shuttle for the return trip. Decide how you will leave the site before the weekend begins, especially if staying in Chiang Mai city.
The same principle applies elsewhere. EDC needs accommodation and festival transport to work together. An island event needs the ferry and mainland connection organised. A city event needs a realistic late-night route back to the room. Leave travel buffers rather than treating the festival’s finishing time as your departure time.
What to pack
- Ticket confirmation and accepted entry identification.
- Warm layers for northern Thailand festival nights.
- Comfortable shoes, a light towel and a small day bag.
- Swimwear if you want to use Gaia’s hot springs.
- Reusable water bottle or cup, sun protection and repellent.
- A headlamp, power bank and the camping equipment you will actually use.
- Cash for Gaia’s vendors; many also accept Thai bank transfer.
- Offline copies of your ticket, accommodation address and transport plan.
For a water-filled S2O trip, add secure waterproof storage and quick-drying clothing. Match the packing list to the event rather than taking the same bag to every festival.
Complete your entry paperwork
Use the official Thai e-Visa site or the relevant Thai embassy to check the requirements for your passport and itinerary. Complete the applicable arrival process through the official Thailand Digital Arrival Card portal. Keep festival tickets and accommodation details together with your travel documents.
Give the festival room in your holiday
For Gaia, arrive before Friday, keep the three event days open and allow Monday for packing and departure from camp by midday. Add Chiang Mai sightseeing before or after the gathering instead of trying to fit it into the main festival days.
Use our calendar and budget guide to finish the plan, then read the Gaia review for the music, venue and camping details.
